Material.
NOOK wird aus dem innovativen Kunststoff VarioLine gefertigt. VarioLine ist ein Plattenmaterial, das durch ein hochtechnologisches Spritzgießverfahren einen geschlossenzelligen Schaumkern besitzt, der von zwei hochverdichteten, porenfreien Randschichten umschlossen wird. Dies macht das Material leicht und doch robust, steif und doch flexibel sowie wetterfest und UV-resistent. Durch langjährige Anwendung in der Fahrzeugindustrie und im Bootsbau hat sich das Material bereits einen guten Namen gemacht.
VarioLine ist durch die außergewöhnliche Kombination seiner Eigenschaften die beste Grundlage für den NOOK und für den Möbelbau eine großartige Neuentdeckung. Der Werkstoff ist ein Polypropylen und kann problemlos recycelt werden.
Herstellung.
Der Hocker NOOK wird aus einem Stück gefertigt: In eine VarioLine Platte wird rückseitig ein Falzmuster gefräst. Anschliessend wird der Hocker durch Falten in seine außergewöhnliche Form gebracht und unterseitig durch einen Aluminium Verschluss fixiert ? ganz ohne Kleben oder Schweißen. Durch die Besonderheiten des Materials und das Zusammenspiel von Spannung und Faltung entsteht die markante Formsprache des NOOK. Sowohl der Werkstoff als auch der Hocker werden in Dresden gefertigt.

Material.
NOOK is made out of the innovative plastic VarioLine. This is a high tech injection moulded board with a closed celled foam kernel, enclosed by two high density upper layers. This is what makes VarioLine light weight but robust, rigid but very flexible and it is just as weather resistant as it is UV resistant. Because it has been used in the vehicle manufacturing and boat building industry for years, VarioLine has got a profound reputation already. With these extraordinary characteristics VarioLine is an ideal fundament for the NOOK and a great discovery for the furniture industry. The material is a polypropylene that makes it completely recyclable.
Manufacturing
NOOK ? the stool ? is manufactured out of one piece: the clinching pattern is milled into the flipside of a VarioLine board. Subsequently the stool will be folded into its extraordinary shape. The whole piece is fixed at the bottom by an aluminium catch – without cementation or welding. The interplay of tension and folding creates the striking design vocabulary of the NOOK which can only be realised in symbiosis with this designated material. The material just as the stool are manufactured in Dresden, Germany.
